Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is currently recruiting for the position of a Head of Region (HoR) for Middle East North Africa and Eastern Europe (MENAEE) based on its Head Quarter in Birmingham who will lead on designing and developing regional strategies for the allocated region and to ensure delivery of effective programmes and raising the profile amongst donors and potential funders.
The role will contribute to the organisational learning and the achievement of the wider strategic objectives. The HOR, in addition to providing leadership for those reporting to him/her, will strategically develop and manage IRWs portfolio of programme in the region to maximise its impact in our working area. Part of this will also include responsibility for preparing and securing rapid and effective responses to major emergencies in the region in close coordination with key stakeholders. The role will also lead and develop a cross-functional regional teams to build the capacity of Country Management Teams in the region to achieve IRW’s full potential. This would include the post-holder building a strong Regional Management Team (RMT) in the region, guiding their development, planning succession, and taking prompt action to address issues of underperformance. S/he, moreover, will also mobilise funds and resources to support IRW planned work, and to make best use of resources available to maximise impact for target beneficiaries. These responsibilities are undertaken while ensuring that that there is an appropriate contribution to policy development and advocacy at regional and global level based on the experience of the country programme.
It is essential that the candidate has a Post graduate degree or equivalent in social economics / development studies/social sciences. This is to be coupled with knowledge and experience of managing and developing a large team of international professional staff in different locations, demonstrating significant and measurable improvement in results. The post-holder should have substantial experience and knowledge of effective budgetary control and grant management at regional level. To further compliment this, s/he should have strong and well developed analytical skills coupled with experience of writing quality piece of work that are publishable and usable by non-specialists. The candidate, to consolidate understanding of this role, should have excellent working knowledge of written and spoken English. A working knowledge of the Arabic language would be an added value.
