Our Birmingham, UK office is currently recruiting for the position of ‘Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Advisor’ to join the International Programmes Division. The Disaster Risk Reduction Advisor will play a critical role within the International Programmes Division of Islamic Relief Worldwide. Based within the Disaster Risk Management Department, the post holder is expected to work across the Division supporting teams across all regions (Asia, East and West Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe).

The post holder will also advise on DRR, resilience and climate change adaptation (CCA) programming issues including systems and frameworks that provide IRW assurance that it is meeting industry standards.

The successful candidate must have or be:

  • Masters degree or equivalent in international development and / or related field
  • Experience of working in the international development sector including experience in programme design, monitoring and evaluations and knowledge of participatory techniques
  • Knowledge of the international disaster reduction system at field level and international level, i.e. Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction
  • Extensive experience of working in disaster risk reduction and resilience in an international response, recovery and development context
  • Training and capacity building experience
  • Working and influencing institutional and high-profile donors
