With an active presence in over 40 countries across the globe, we strive to make the world a better and fairer place for those affected by poverty, conflicts and natural disasters.

We are currently recruiting for the position of ‘Global Humanitarian Advocacy Advisor' to join its dynamic External Relations and Advocacy Division. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Global Advocacy department as we scale up our policy and advocacy work related to global crises such as natural disasters and major conflicts. This role will contribute to the development of change objectives with a specific focus on humanitarian and protracted crises.

The successful candidate must have or be:

  • Extensive humanitarian policy experience on thematic and country specific humanitarian issues
  • Masters and/or first degree in development-related discipline or International Relations is desirable
  • Proven experience of working with country teams on the delivery of policy and advocacy strategies in humanitarian / protracted crisis settings
  • Experience of undertaking policy analysis and writing advocacy briefings and reports on humanitarian policy issues
  • Experience of advocacy on gender justice and climate issues would be advantageous, as these are the focus of IRW’s campaigning beyond the humanitarian arena, and there are often connections that can be made
  • Experience of working effectively with communications and campaigns teams to ensure that public engagement activities reflect organisational policy positions and priorities
  • Knowledge of current policy debates relating to humanitarian crises and of the major international processes and actors in the humanitarian systems. Knowledge of working specifically on gender issues would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of the global humanitarian and development policy and institutional arena and its frameworks, its challenges and blockages, and how these can be addressed
